This weekend I sat down and watched the 2008 film Dead Girl. Dead Girl was directed by Marcel Sarmiento, Gadi Harel. I remember watching the trailer for this film a long time ago. And it took me about five minutes to recognize the film. The film is about two social outcasts Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and J.T. (Noah Segan) decide to skip school. They decide the best place to beat the heat and have a couple of beers is at the local abandoned mental institution. After drinking and vandalizing the building, the two boys become fed up and decide the next best thing is to explore the underground tunnels beneath the hospital. (cue spooky music and ghosts.) After adventuring deep into the tunnels the boys are led to this abandoned vault where they find the body of a woman chained to an examination table. Upon further investigation.. the boys discover that the woman is in fact alive.
The film itself was mediocre, the plot was a bit predictable, the acting was forced at times (I am a bit biased in this specific category I’m not a big fan of Candice Accola’s acting) What I did appreciate during the film was the acting on Shiloh Fernandaz and Noah Segan’s part. Noah Segan’s character was so corrupt and crude that I found myself loathing his characters presence on screen. Shiloh’s character Rickie I felt a small sense of pitty, he knew what was right and wrong but he didn’t know how to act in the situation. The soundtrack to the film was well done, they chose Animal Collective’s For Reverend Green. I found that sometimes the directors relied on “cheap spooks,” seen in 90’s wes craven films. The soundtrack plus the lighting of the film had me conflicted because I found myself appreciating the beauty in how the film was shot. Yet I found myself repulsed by the abject subject matter that the directors were depicting on screen. All in all this film is mediocre, and would rate the film 7/10.

Saw it. The best part of it is the fact that they tune out with Liars. 5.5/10 stars.
